At the start of summer, many parts breathe a sigh of relief that the end-of-the-school-year activities are finally over. However, in just a few short months, your kids will be back into the grind of their school year. One of the hardest adjustments for kids and parents alike to make when going from summer break to the school year is with their schedules. 

In many families, summer schedules are much more relaxed, allowing kids to stay up later and sleep in longer than they would if they had school. So once it’s time to get up early again, doing so can be a real struggle.

By doing this, you’ll give yourself and your kids the adjustment time needed to be completely ready for school the very first morning of their new classes. 

Get Prepared With The Right Supplies

Going back to school means getting all new supplies for a whole new school year. And while you might dread doing the shopping and spending the money on these items, this ritual can be a great way to get your kids excited and ready for the new school year.

PBS Kids recommends that in addition to getting all the basics covered on your school supplies list, you might also want to get your child one thing that they simply want for that school year. By doing this, you might help them get more excited about going back to school.

Classroom supplies aren’t the only things you should be shopping for during the back-to-school season. If your child does any sports, make sure you’re replacing any gear that might have gotten too small or worn down during the last season, as playing with the right gear can help your child avoid sustaining personal injuries while they’re playing. 

Take Advantage Of Any Orientation Opportunities

To help your child feel ready for their new classes, new teacher, and new friends, HealthyChildren.org suggests that you and your child take advantage of any orientation opportunities that you have prior to the school year starting. Even something as simple as seeing the outside of the school or going into their classroom for a few minutes can help with a lot of anxiety.
