  • Purge/declutter
  • Maximize closet space
  • Look for ways to use space creatively
  • Utilize your vertical space
  • Use furniture that has storage space

PURGE/DECLUTTER

First things first; you need to know when to let go! A small space doesn’t have to be bad nor does it have to be a problem. The problem is how much stuff you have to deal with. If you haven’t used something in six months, chances are you don’t need it. When you do inventory and you come across two of certain items, get rid of one. We often times think we need things that we don’t use on the regular. We may think ‘I may use that one day!’ and it will keep us holding on to it and we’ll go another six months without using it. Free your space by decluttering and purging often. It can be very freeing.

MAXIMIZE CLOSET SPACE

Closet systems are a great way to save and maximize space. Your closet space doesn’t have to be for just hanging your clothes. If you can fit a dresser or some kind of storage chest in there, do it! Put every inch of your closet space to use. Not to mention, when you put extra storage in a closet, it’s also out of the way.

LOOK FOR WAYS TO USE SPACE CREATIVELY

When you have space in your home, there are many ways you can use it creatively. Certain rooms can serve for many different functions if you allow it to. You can turn closets into pantries; you can make use of space next to the garage as a mudroom/area if you have one. It’s all about being creative and what you will allow in your space. You can turn old doors into tables, and tables into storage space. Try searching for decorating small spaces for clever ideas.

UTILIZE YOUR VERTICAL SPACE

When you occupy a small space, it’s hard for the room to go out. If that’s the case, go up! Bunk beds are a great option for utilizing vertical space. Shelving units are also another great option. Think about what you can hang on a wall in terms of storing stuff. IT can serve as storage and decoration.

USE FURNITURE THAT HAS STORAGE SPACE

The way furniture is made today; you can find almost anything that doubles as storage; couches, tables, beds, dining tables absolutely anything. The best part about it is; you don’t know that it has these hidden compartments. The furniture and your space can still look sleek and clean.

Making the most out of small spaces can indeed be challenging, but it can also be fun if you have a creative mind. Don’t be afraid to seek out different methods of storing your items, you’ll be clutter free and have the space you want in no time.
