Tips for Saving Money on Holiday Shopping
Shop until you drop is the theme for holiday shopping every year. Early shoppers and last-minute risk-takers can all agree on one thing: the holidays get expensive. It’s fun to buy gifts for others, and y’all don’t want to feel like a Scrooge. Still, the reality is that we can all enjoy the process more when we create a plan and focus on how to save. Make holiday shopping fun with the following tips for saving money on holiday shopping.
Make a List
If Santa needs a list, so do y’all. A list helps us stick with the plan and create a budget. On the holiday list, I include the names of everyone who needs a gift. I start with the obvious, such as family members, then go on to friends and others. Y’all can cater the list to your needs, adding teachers, daycare providers, and so on.
Next to each name, I write a gift I’d like to give them. Remember, it’s the thought that counts, and sometimes, the smallest thoughtful gift means more than an expensive one. For example, consider simple gifts for your school staff and teachers so that your kids have something to give them that says “thanks” without going overboard.
Black Friday
There’s no need to go out and fight the Black Friday crowds so that y’all can save money. Instead, watch for the Black Friday sales online. They tend to happen throughout the season, which is nice, so we don’t have to shop the day after Thanksgiving after we’ve eaten too much pie.
Open a Christmas Account
One of the best tips for saving money on holiday shopping is to plan for next year’s holiday season with a Christmas savings account at your bank. Most banks offer these, and it’s a great way to stash some money away for Christmas shopping.
Get Alerts
Many sites offer email or text alerts when your favorite items go on sale. If little Susie wants a TV for her room, ask for a sales alert for a television on your favorite home entertainment site and get a deal.
Shop Early
Y’all may thrive under pressure; however, it might cause you to miss good deals. Most businesses want to make sure we shop with them this holiday season, so they do their best to get us to come in or shop online starting in early November and sometimes sooner. If the deals are going on, strike while the iron is hot.
