Tips for Planning Your Autumn Home Renovations

Tips for Planning Your Autumn Home Renovations

It’s that time of year, y’all. Time to roll up our sleeves, mosey around the house, inspect every inch for problems, and jot down ideas for home improvement. Sometime between May and July, I write down things I’d like to change, and by the time August comes, I’m ready to get busy. Here are tips for planning your autumn home renovations that I’d like to share with you.

Focus on Interior Projects

Fall is the season of change, and we intend to do that this year, y’all. In the past, I’ve spent time focusing on the main rooms I use for entertainment, such as the kitchen, entryway, and living room. These are the prime areas I look to fix up often.

I want you to think about one room you’d like to liven up more, such as the basement or dining room. Sometimes you entertain in those spaces and want to get more use out of them. If you want more storage, try plotting an area in the basement for new closet space.

In addition to that, think of the size of your basement. Maybe you have plenty of room, but it’s unfinished. Think about adding an entertainment room with games, a TV, and a small kitchenette. Finishing my basement was at the top of my list, and I finished it.

Adjust the Outdoors

Let’s go outside and look around. The outdoor area needs a lot of work, especially as the season becomes chilly and wet. For myself, I focused on the entertainment space. My deck needed reworking and fall is the best time to do it.

So I went ahead and researched what I needed to know about deck renovations, and boy, did I learn a lot! For starters, I needed to know my deck type. And after that, I contacted a contractor who guided me through purchasing the right supplies and finishing the final touches. Consider doing the same with your deck or patio if you have one.

Start Winter-Proofing Early

You can winterize your home anytime in the fall, but unpredictability happens throughout the season. So I prefer winterizing my home when it’s a comfortable 50 degrees Fahrenheit out and not raining. If it does rain, I wait a day or two to start.

First, I begin by prepping my garden, and I recommend doing the same, y’all. Winter’s a harsh season; preparing as soon as it gets cooler is the best time to winter-proof the home.

It’s important to have tips for planning your autumn home renovations. Start preparing your home and pick the projects to complete this fall. I encourage you to start now, so there’s no delay in winter-proofing or renovations.
