Tips for Decluttering Before the Holidays

Tips for Decluttering Before the Holidays from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Every year as I start to prepare for the holidays, the thought of guests overwhelming my home is enough to make me want to start preparing as early as possible. The stage that I have the most problems with is always creating enough space. Here are some of my go-to tips for decluttering before the holidays.

Donate Used Goods

One thing I like to do at the start of every holiday season is to go through my home to find items I don’t want or use anymore. By doing this, it allows me to give back by donating some of my lightly used items to charity. Sometimes it’s clothes that are going to end up at the donation center. Other times, it’s toys that my kids are no longer using. Whatever the item, there is most likely a place that’ll accept it for a donation if it is in clean, working order.

Throw Out Expired Food

My next tip for decluttering before the holidays is to empty my kitchen of all of the expired food that’s built up over the course of the year. One year, I even found leftovers in the freezer from the previous Christmas dinner! You should be sure to clean out your pantry and cupboards for anything past the expiration date. The same goes for the refrigerator and your freezer. I don’t want to run the risk of serving spoiled food at my holiday feast, so this is always on my checklist before the guests start arriving.

Dispose of Unwanted Items

Right before the holiday season is a great time to throw out some of the old junk that clogs up your home. Clothes that can’t be donated, toys with missing pieces, and unwanted decorations from seasons past always end up down by the curb for trash day. It can be quite a long process, so hiring a company that provides Junk Removal services for these situations can save so much time and stress. In the course of cleaning, I always come across bulky items in my home that need to be disposed of, but the garbage truck refuses to take them. Using a removal company that can easily dispose of things like old furniture, broken appliances, and a host of other random junk can therefore be a lifesaver, particularly while getting ready for the holiday season itself.
