Serving With A Smile

OK I have been promising for several days a series of posts about the Women of Faith Conference. The start of these posts is going to be about the friendly people that I came in contact with during my brief two day stay. First let me start by saying Charlotte is a city that I have visited before first and foremost because most of the Nascar race shops are located there but also because for a while the only INS (Immigration and Naturalization office) for our state was located there. So I was familiar with Charlotte but I never had such a positive and welcoming experience as I had that weekend.
Let me set the stage for you- My neighbor Mandy and I started the journey at 5:30 am ( yes I said am ) on Friday . We were on the road for less than an hour and then the rain came. It rained all the way up to Charlotte which is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours away. This just made the trip longer. Once we got to Charlotte and through the traffic we had to find our way to the arena where the conference was held. Trying to find a place to park in the pouring rain was an experience. We were lucky to find one near the arena. I am just glad that I wore my tennis shoes, Mandy on the other hand had on flip flops and her feet were soaked just walking the short distance from the car to the arena.   Once we parked and proceeded to walk toward the arena we had the first of many friendly encounters. The Charlotte Police were out in the pouring rain directing traffic making sure we all got safely to our destination. I have to hand it to the city of Charlotte, they had the friendliest police officers out handling the traffic in the pouring rain. ( I hold a special place in my heart for those men and women in blue who put their life on the line everyday to make sure we are protected. Of course what else would you expect from a policeman’s daughter?) They could have been grumpy and ill because they had to direct traffic in the rain but no they weren’t they were smiling and friendly. This set the tone for the rest of the weekend. Kudos to the Charlotte Police Department for their awesome hospitality.
Come Back tomorrow when I tell you more about this weekend.
Next up the awesome hotel we stayed in and the amazing clerk we meet there.
