AFM Reading List

Normally when I read a series by an author I often wonder if the next book that they write outside of the series will be as good as those in the series. Normally, they aren’t to me because I am so invested in the series that they pale in comparison. But that was not the case with Linked, written by Judy Serrano. I was pleasantly surprised with how well I liked  loved this book.

Judy Serrano is the author of the Easter Lilly’s series, my absolute favorite. Imagine my surprise when my favorite characters of Lilly, Diego and max showed up briefly in this book.

Here is a brief summary of the book.

Daphne Foster is a substitute teacher stuck in an English class, waiting for
that dreaded parent-teacher conference. With much preparation and anxiety, she
encounters the unforgettable Charlie Cross. His charm and good looks, win her
over but rumors of his involvement with organized crime make his continued
disappearances disturbing. In walks Heathcliff Vanderpool, creating a love
triangle of unusual sorts. Unknown to Daphne, Heathcliff and Charlie are old
friends: Older than she could have imagined. With Charlie away on business,
Daphne and Heathcliff discover a passion between them lying beneath the surface.
As their souls link, pulling away from Charlie becomes next to impossible. Will
his involvement in organized crime consume them both before she’s able to get
free? When you become “linked,” the choice may not be your own.

I will have to say that I absolutely loved the character of Daphne. I could identify with Daphne because like Daphne I am also a teacher. I also felt like Daphne that each student that I reach I have a personal investment in. Most teachers want the best for their students. I loved that Daphne felt that “pleasure to be able to donate to the young minds that will be running the country someday.” I just wish that more people felt that way.

This book was also filled with beautiful imagery. For instance, this passage stood out for me. I was “drawn to him like dandelions caught in the wind; I seemed to be unable to control my destination.” Can’t you just see those dandelions blowing in the wind. There are more beautiful images like this in this book.
