Just Got a New Cat Here’s How to Keep Them Happy… from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Bringing a cat into your home is an exciting time. However, you have to make sure that you are well prepared. You should be wanting to make sure that your home is ready for your new cat so that they feel comfortable and happy in their new home. Providing for a cat who has its own personality and charm is one of the most satisfying parts of the relationship. However, you must first learn what it is you need to do, in order to keep your cat as healthy and as happy as they can be in life.

Create a Safe Haven

One of the most important things that you can do for your cat, is to create a safe haven for them. You might already know this, but cats are territorial. This means that when they come to their new home, they might be feeling uneasy because they don’t know it. There’s all that unexplored space, and they don’t know what might be lurking around the corner. They will soon get used to their new home, so leave them be and they’ll soon find out that their new home is completely safe.

To help them feel more comfortable though, you could always provide a safe haven for your cat. They like to get away from the world and go into small places. If you brought your cat home in a cat carrier, then this is the perfect place for them to hide in. You could also buy a cat stand that is big enough for the cat to stand up in and turn around. Make sure that it is facing the door though (basically just a bit of cat “feng shui” here), as they will help them feel safer in your home.

Play Time

This won’t be hard for any cat lover not to do. It’s important that you play with your cat every day, or at least make sure that you give them plenty of attention. If you know that you have a particularly playful cat, then you should make sure to try out different toys to help keep them entertained. There are plenty of toys out there, however, just to give you a better idea of what to get, then you should know that cat’s love tunnels!

Tunnels are great as you can leave your cat to play with them by themselves and you won’t have to worry about a thing. You can also get toys that allow your cat to stalk, chase, pounce and kick. Be sure to get different toys when you can, even giving them a simple cardboard box will help keep them entertained for hours. Cats love new and “interesting” things.

Let Them Explore on Their Own

You can’t force a cat to feel comfortable in a new home straight away. You need to let them explore on their own and figure out that the home is safe by themselves. If you have people over who want to meet your cat, then you should sit on the ground and let your cat come to you. If your cat isn’t interested in being petted or going near-strangers, then you should leave her be and try again later. Your cat might adjust to the new world straight away, or they might take a little while to adjust to their new home. Just leave your cat be and they’ll soon start to love their new home. As you have probably guessed, cats are complicated creatures, however, they’ll love you unconditionally. If you are thinking of getting a cat but aren’t sure if it’s the right pet for you, then you should check out this article here for more information on whether cats make good pets.
