Getting Fit at Home Adrienne Sherman RN, FNP, MPH
Whether it’s the weather or just a
lack of time, getting to the gym can be a challenge—and bulky equipment in your apartment can be cumbersome. Good news: you can fit in an effective, challenging workout at home using a few key, small items.
1. Dumbbells – A set of dumbbells in various weights can challenge your muscles and help you vary your workouts. Start small, and increase as you get stronger.
2. Resistance Tubing – In different levels of resistance, these tubes are an effective way to improve strength, balance, and coordination.
3. Jump Rope – Inexpensive and lightweight, a jump rope is one of the easiest tools for high-intensity cardio workouts.
4. Stability Ball – Your core muscles are engaged with every exercise you do on a stability ball—crunches, biceps curls, incline push-ups—so for improving balance, flexibility, and strength, it can’t be beat.
