Electricity You Have Come a Long Way Baby
Do you think that when Benjamin Franklin was outside playing with his kite during a thunderstorm that he actually knew what he was doing? He probably did to some extent but I don’t think he could have foreseen the impact that electricity would have on all of our lives.
I know you are probably thinking that is not me, I could go without electricity. I think that is true for the most part for all of us, but only for a few hours maybe a day or two. But could you go without electricity forever.
I remember back in October when Hurricane Matthew hit. Going just a day without it during muggy North Carolina weather was no fun. Now before you get me wrong, I was and am still very grateful for the fact that there was only a day we were without power. But that didn’t make me forget about those that were affected by the massive destruction that Matthew caused. ( I had some people even question my priorities because I wanted to take a break from hosting a linky party to help with the devastation.)
Just think about how much we rely on electricity. Right now I am working on my laptop, blogging, using the internet that is run off it. I am also listening to the sound of my dryer as it is drying the clothes I washed early in the washing machine. Both the washer and dryer run on it. I am also staying cool inside my house with the air conditioning going with ceiling fans going overhead to circulate the air.
And if I were to step outside into the backyard, aka the desert, I could hear the hum of the pool pump as well as the whirl of the fan on the air compressor.
So in just this short timespan, I think you have gotten the importance of electricity in our lives. So tell me do you think you can go a day unplugged from it? If you have ever done it I would love to know your experiences or any tips that you might have to share.
