Are You Going for Your Oregon plumbing license renewal this year from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

If you are looking to work in the plumbing sector of Oregon, you should keep yourself updated about the license issuance and renewal procedures. The plumbing industry of the state would provide you with a career option of moderate duration, normally for 15 years with an average pay of $ 32.73 per year. But they have stringent laws for plumbers. Without a proper license, you would not be eligible for any type of plumbing job.

Types of plumber licenses:

  • Journeyman plumber license

Licenses of this category come under the purview of the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB). The CCB has to be informed about any change in address, phone, or email within 10 days of the change. This can be done either through a request form or through the CCB’s Online Service Portal. You can also call up the official phone number to inform them.

A journeyman plumber is usually trained under a master plumber and can perform all plumbing activities like installations, repairs, and remodeling in both commercial and residential projects.

You can apply for a journeyman license after completing an apprenticeship of four years. Additionally, there is a written examination which you must get through and then register with the licensing board.

  • Plumbing contractor license

As a holder of this license based on the rules of the State Plumbing Board, you can perform activities like installation, remodeling, and repair of plumbing works or pipes. You can advertise your labor, provide labor for a project, or provide both labor and plumbing material. It is also known as an OR certificate of registration to conduct a plumbing business.

You would not be eligible to work as a journeyman plumber. For taking part in plumbing jobs, you have to procure a certificate of compliance or an individual license from the state of Oregon.

  • Supervising plumber license

The supervising plumber licenses are issued to journeyman plumbers by the State Plumbing Board. The holders of these licenses have to get approval from the board for being competent enough to handle supervisory duties related to plumbing activities and know the laws, rules, ordinances, and practices related to the plumbing process.

Oregon Plumbing License Renewal:

The licenses issued by Oregon Building Codes Division (BCD) can be renewed online within 45 days of the expiration date. To facilitate the licensee, the renewal notices are mailed to their addresses before 45 days of the expiry date. The expiry dates are printed on the licenses by the issuer.

  • In Oregon state, the license for journeyman plumbers expires every 3 years.

Before renewal of the license, they have to complete a 24-hour continuous education (CE) course on plumbing. This is a state requirement. If the licenses are not renewed within the deadline, the licenses will come under the bucket of expired-renewable, and eligibility to work would be on hold.

  • For the plumbing contractors, the license issued by the CCB would have to be renewed every two years.

You may or may not get a renewal notice by mail. Generally, the renewal notice is mailed to the holder six weeks before the expiry date.

  • The fees for a journeyman plumber license renewal would be $ 50 annually.
  • For a plumbing contractor license renewal, the fees are $ 150 per year.
  • The renewal fee for a supervising plumber license is $ 50 for a year.

Renewal for the following plumbing licenses is exempt from CE:

  • Water treatment installer (WTI)
  • Water heater installer (WHI)

Renewal in case of suspended licenses:

In case your license got suspended, look for the reason for suspension and correct the same to get it renewed as soon as possible.

The license may get suspended under the following situations:

  • The hiring of employees despite having an exempt employer status
  • If there is cancelation of your bond or liability insurance
  • Non-payment of renewal fees
  • Break or delay in maintaining your corporate/LLC filing. The filing has to be done with the Oregon Corporate Division.

You are prohibited to participate in any contractor work or submit bids for contracting work without a license. Carrying out your contracting activities without a contractor’s license can result in a fine ranging from $ 600 to $ 5000.

The licenses which were due for renewal by 1st December 2020, got an extended deadline of January 2021. The extension was given, keeping in mind the difficulties faced by the license holders during the Covid-19 situation. It would facilitate the license holders to complete the formal procedures related to CE courses and other renewal processes. The CE courses were not available temporarily in certain locations. Keep a check on the expiry date of your license irrespective of whether you get a renewal notice and complete all the processes related to Oregon plumbing license renewal to carry on your plumbing job without any interruption. You can refer to the circulars published on the websites of the state government to keep yourself updated about any change in the rule or process.
