A Way to Remember Your Loved Ones

As many of you know my dad passed away in January. It was a loss that is felt everyday in my family. He was such a larger than life figure that it doesn’t seem real that he has really gone. Within a  month from his death there were four major dates that we had to face without him. His birthday, Valentine’s Day, My mom’s birthday and my parent’s anniversary.

His death was not the first that we felt in our family as we lost my sister,Karen 20 years ago, when both my oldest sister Denise and I were pregnant with our first children. Since my sister’s death my mom has always worn an angel pin on her shirt in memory of sister. So when my dad died, I wanted to find something that my mom could wear in memory of my dad, her high school sweetheart.

I came across this company called Perfect Memorials. And found an amazing sterling silver heart necklace that I had engraved with my dad’s name and the words Always in My Heart.  The necklace came the day before Valentine’s Day and I toyed with the idea of keeping it for myself as it was that beautiful but I decided it came the day before Valentines for a reason. This was our Valentines present to my mom. She has worn the necklace everyday since we gave it to her. And there are times that I notice her holding the heart. If this necklace brings her a little bit of comfort than I am glad I made the right choice and not the selfish one.

  1. Melissa,
I am so sorry for your loss.
My Dad passed away 28 years ago and there is not a day that i do not think about him and smile. He was the first love of my life….. I am very proud to say that i am a carpenter’s daughter and it was him who did not care that i was a girl and taught me so much of my Do It Yourself skills.
It does get better with time but the first year is always the hardest…..
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

    Hugs,
    Deb
