5 Things To Look Forward To About Your Kids Leaving For College from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

A lot of parents aren’t prepared for their kids to leave the nest.  When the day comes to go off to college, all they can think about is all of the things they’ll miss. However, rather than focusing on what you’ll miss, why not focus on what you’ll gain?

While your children will always be your pride and joy, there are still plenty of perks to them going to college.  Here are some of the best things to look forward to.

Downsizing Your Home

When the last child leaves for college, a lot of parents find themselves no longer in need of all the space in their home.  When there’s only you left living in the house, there’s no point to needing all that unused space.

Consider downsizing your home to a smaller apartment or townhouse.  You won’t just spend less on keeping the house up and running, but you’ll have to worry about much less maintenance!  A smaller space means less stress, period.

Less Noise

As adorable as kids are, they are noisy creatures!  Whether they’re practicing their new drum kit or watching a Disney DVD menu on loop, there’s always some kind of racket.  Although it may seem a little too quiet at first, you’ll adjust over time.

You’ll appreciate the peace and quiet after a while, especially when you’re reading a book or trying to get some sleep!

Less Laundry

If there’s one universal fact about all children everywhere, they make a mess on their clothes!  Kids are always spilling, falling, and splashing all sorts of stains on their clothing. The laundry basket is always filled to the brim when living with your kids.

When they leave, you may only have to do one or two loads a week.  Just imagine all the other things you can do with your free time! No more endless folding, ironing, and putting clothes away!

A Full Fridge

The older that kids get into their teen years, the more they raid your fridge. Sometimes you can find everything you’ve just bought at the store eaten in only a few short hours.

When the kids are gone, you won’t just have more food for a longer amount of time, but you’ll have less cooking to worry about too!

Less Cleaning

The fewer people that are living with you, the less you have to vacuum, mop, shine, buff, or whatever else is part of your cleaning routine.

There are no more toothpaste splashes on the mirror, or hairballs trapped in the sink.  No more fingerprints on light switches, or foreign objects stuck between the couch curtains. Instead of having to chase after everyone’s messes you can now put your feet up and enjoy your life!
