Tomato Tips

  • Select firm tomatoes with dark color. They should feel heavy as light tomatoes can be mealy and bland.
  • Keep at room temperature.
  • Very ripe tomatoes should be refrigerated.
  • When cooking fresh tomatoes, avoid aluminum pans. The acid in the tomatoes may react and form an unpleasant taste.
  • In cooked tomato dishes, a pinch of sugar helps the flavor,
  • Wash tomatoes right before use. Washing before storage can cause spoilage.
