The circus is coming to Raleigh, NC’s RBC center. I thought in honor of this awesome event I would share a little about the circus. I actually went this circus about 2 years ago with Gracie’s 2nd grade class and it was amazing. Here are some fun facts.

THE TRAIN

· The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey^® circus train that brings Fully Charged^® to each city on tour has a total of 59 cars, and has a total length over a mile long.

· The 59 cars on the Blue Unit Train include: 4 animal stock cars, 30 coaches for living, 2 concession storage cars, 19 flat bed equipment cars, 1 pie car (diner), 1 generator car, 1 shop car, and 1 auxiliary generator/shop car.

· The state-of-the-art generator car produces enough electricity to power the entire train, making it completely self sufficient 24/7/365.

· Periodic water stops are scheduled during train trips to refill water tanks for animals and people.

· Special stops are arranged on longer trips so the animals can get out for exercise.

Each year an average of 1000 hours is spent traveling by train from city to city.
The average distance the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey^® train travels between cities is 350 miles.
The red unit train will travel an average of 16,000 miles in one year going coast to coast.
The Ringling Bros. red unit train will bring Fully Charged to 78 cities on its two year tour.
The train master walks a minimum of 3 miles per day in taking care of every aspect of the Ringling Bros. train.
Each train car is custom built for a specific purpose at Feld Entertainment Rail Recycling Center in Palmetto, FL

· It takes the Ringling Bros. rail recycling team 9000 man-hours to build one train car for The Greatest Show On Earth^®.

As a mother of teens who enjoys the frugal side of things, there are many ways to save on tech, especially in time for the holidays. Check out these tips and sites to help you extend those tech dollars while still getting what you want.

1. Sell it – Got a piece of technology, such as a television or laptop, that you’re looking to replace? Get a down payment on the new one by selling the old one. Even tube televisions can fetch a decent price if you go to the right place. Call a few local resell shops to get a price over the phone. However, the web remains one of the best ways to sell tech, with sites such as Gazelle specifically for those who want to sell and buy tech.

2. Post it – Sites like Craigslist can not only help you sell a piece of tech, you can also list your tech needs on the site and what you’re willing to pay. With many of these sites offering the option to post for free, it is a frugal friendly way to shop and sell.

3. Bid it – Good old sites like eBay remain a hot spot for amazing deals on the newest and not so new pieces of tech. One of the standout features of eBay is the ability to check out user feedback on different sellers to make sure the deal goes smoothly. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try a micro-bidding site where each bid has its costs, which can add up for multiple bids, but users with a knack can get amazing buys.

4. Search for it – There are tons of tech deal, deal of the day, and bargain basement sites out there that specifically deal with tech. A few worth mentioning include Tech Bargains, Slick Deals, Newegg, and many others. Doing a search for your item can produce results from both within their sites and the sites of partners.

5. Accommodate – If you’re looking for a general tech item, such as a printer or a computer, don’t be too specific as to what you want. Broadening your range on what brands to get, what features you like but don’t need, and more can get you lots more hits and way better deals.

6. Ship What? – All this online shopping may be good for the frugality, but what about those pesky shipping charges? A pricey S & H charge can negate all the bargain shopping you just did. However, there is a remedy, like the help found at FreeShipping.org. They specialize in finding sites that are currently offering free shipping and/or discounts. Best of all, they have the code listed right there to keep from extra clicking and even include other offers.

7. Know When to Strike – Tech sales happen throughout the year but whenever a new piece of tech is coming often means the one being replaced will be sold for less. This may not help with a teen that wants the new iPhone and they mean new. But it can help with things such as HDTV’s, cameras, and Blu-ray players.
