Ways To Maintain Your Refrigerator Temperature

Ways To Maintain Your Refrigerator Temperature

Keeping a refrigerator’s temperature consistent can be tough. A fluctuating fridge could spell trouble for the stuff inside; it could mean the difference between a perfectly chilled sweet tea and a lukewarm disappointment! There isn’t much going on with my ice box, but whenever it hit the fan, I relied on one of these ways to maintain the refrigerator temperature. Now, I want to share them with y’all so your banana pudding doesn’t slip on flavor and your sweet tea stays cool.

Check Door Seals

I learned recently that a bad door seal can change a fridge’s inside temperatures. I wondered if I should duct tape the door! Fortunately, my friend showed me that their refrigerator seal had cracks in it and made a point to check them routinely. Wiping sweat from my furrowed brow, I took a breath and inspected my door seal. Here are some things I looked out for:

  • Broken and cracked seals
  • Air coming through the cracks
  • Abnormally high temps

Watch Those Temperatures

Did y’all know you can use an adjustable thermostat in your fridge? Some refrigerators even come with that feature for the freezer! I like to set my fridge around 37–40 degrees Fahrenheit and the freezer at freezing (0 degrees Fahrenheit). Y’all should check your fridges for a thermostat; if there isn’t one, get one!

Proper Storage

I remember when my oldest moved into their first apartment. They thought everything needed to go in the fridge, including spices! Oh, my precious heart! I came over one day and got to cleaning that fridge out after they told me nearly everything spoiled and dried out in a week. Then, we got in the truck and drove to the nearest home supply store to get some storage supplies. If y’all are like me, I think a home ain’t organized without storage.

Take this advice: Where and how you store your food in the refrigerator also affects the temperature. Don’t overcrowd the shelves because it obstructs airflow. Now that’s how y’all organize the refrigerator!

Perform Regular Maintenance

One of my unpleasant habits used to be not taking care of my appliances. I learned the hard way because the red flags went over my head. One of my good friends is a refrigerator technician who noticed mine making strange noises one day.

I asked, “What’s going on?”

She said, “Did you know that your refrigerator’s humming really loud?”

Well, it sure wasn’t a bird chirping! It’s only a Samsung fridge, after all. Then, she told me some common cooling issues of Samsung fridges and that I should look out for them. Since then, I have kept a better eye on things and inspect my fridge regularly.

Maintaining the temperature in your refrigerator is essential for everyone. By following these simple tips, y’all can keep your refrigerators in good condition for years.
