Things You Should Unplug After Every Use (And Why It Matters!)

We all have those little habits that seem harmless—like leaving the toaster plugged in or keeping chargers in the wall 24/7. But did you know some of those habits could be draining your wallet and putting your home at risk?
As someone who shares a home full of energy (and fur!), I’ve learned that a few quick unplugs can go a long way toward saving money, keeping your appliances healthy, and preventing potential fire hazards. So today, I’m sharing a friendly nudge to unplug these household items after every use. I even created a little checklist you can print or save for later—scroll down to grab it!
7 Things to Unplug After Every Use
1. Toasters & Coffee Makers
These are major energy vampires, and let’s be honest—those crumbs in the toaster can get risky. Unplug after breakfast and you’re good to go.
2. Chargers (Phone, Tablet, etc.)
Even if nothing’s charging, they’re still pulling power. Bonus: unplugging helps them last longer too!
3. Flat Irons & Curling Wands
Raise your hand if you’ve panicked mid-drive wondering if you unplugged the straightener ????. Just make it a habit—your future self will thank you.
4. Microwaves
That clock you never set is using power all day. Unless it’s your only kitchen timer, go ahead and unplug when not in use.
5. Game Consoles
They may be off, but they’re still sipping electricity. If no one’s playing, unplug or turn on energy-saving mode.
6. Decorative Lamps
You know the ones in the corner that rarely get turned on? Yup, unplug ’em.
7. Air Fryers & Electric Kettles
They make life easier, but they don’t need to stay plugged in between uses.

Grab the Checklist!
Here’s a printable (or savable) reminder to keep nearby—tape it inside a cabinet door, stick it to the fridge, or save it to your phone gallery!
