Today I am very pleased to bring my thoughts on this amazing book.

Summer Reading List: The Blasphemy Box from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Here is a brief summary of the book.

You know that nightmare you’ve always had? The one where you wake up one day to find yourself fat, frumpy, fifty and alone? I’m living it.”

Maddy Nelson has an idyllic existence: a handsome husband, great kids, a comfortable, affluent lifestyle. One morning soon after she turns fifty, however, she wakes up in her San Francisco home to find her husband Steven announcing that he’s leaving her for a woman half her age. And a third of her size.

Yep it sounds like a story ripped from the headlines so to speak. Because let’s face it, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t hear about someone splitting up because of cheating.

The name of the book is a very crucial part of the plot. You see the Blasphemy Box was created because Maddy had a potty mouth, so her husband thought of the box so that whenever she cussed she had to put a quarter in it, hoping that it would cut down on her foul language. Once Maddy recovers from the betrayal of her husband she names her blog that she is encourage to write by her best friend, The Blasphemy Box.  Because as she writes

It’s a symbol of everything that was wrong in the marriage, so it seemed like a fitting title for my blog.

This story will make you laugh, cry and is one of those books that you just can’t put down. There were a lot of awesome quotes that I could not help but highlight as I was reading it. Here are just a few:

  • There’s an aisle for oral care, feminine care, skin care, and every other care in the world it seems. Except husband care, of course. I would love to see what might be in that aisle.
  • The only reason to exercise is because you die healthier.
  • that the great about thing about losing friends is that it gives you time to make new ones. And those new friends will make you feel, well, new again.
  • Sometimes dreams do come true. Even when you’re afraid to have them. Afraid to hope because you may be disappointed, afraid to act because you may be deflected. Oscar Wilde said a dreamer is one who can only find his way by hope because you may be disappointed, afraid to act because you may be deflected. Oscar Wilde said a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and that’s how I feel lately, as if I’ve been stepping gingerly along, in twilight or darkness, trying things out, attempting to regroup, willing myself to make a new life, a whole life. And finally, I must tell you, I’m seeing the sun.

Yep this are just a few nib-lets from the book that I fell in love with. I absolutely loved this book. Maddy is a very strong character who I immediately fell in love with her. Her journey through her divorce, her journey on the dating scene online and blind dating is quite interesting. I love how she chose not to bad mouth her children’s father in front of them. Nowadays to many parents that are going through a divorce can not seem to stop themselves from involving their children in their divorce.

If you are looking for a feel good book to read this summer than make sure to add The Blasphemy Box by Mandy Behbehani on your summer must read list.
