Reading List: A Conversation with My Mother -

I abbreviated the title of this book for the title of this post. But here is the whole title, A Conversation with My Mother About Sex, Boys, and How She Married My Dad. Here is a brief summary of the book.

This book was written with the hope of encouraging mothers to have conversations with their daughters about topics that are very important but are often difficult to discuss.
After reading it, hopefully daughters will be encouraged to go to their mothers, aunts, or other female relative and ask these sometimes “hard questions” and hopefully, mothers will be encouraged to initiate conversations (even if uncomfortable at first) that will answer these same questions for their daughters.

As a mom to two teenage girls and having another one coming up right behind them, I loved this book. I cannot wait for my daughters to read it. It is a very straight forward way for moms and daughters to start the conversation about sex. To many times we as parents find it uncomfortable to talk about sex with our children until it is too late. I know that I never had that kind of conversation with my mom. In fact, I did not even know about getting a period until it actually happened to me. Sad, isn’t it? I in no way blame my mom because she was a product of a different generation but I decided that my girls will know when the times come the information that they need to make the best decisions for them. I will have to save that I am very proud of the decisions that my almost 18 year old and 15 year old have made in their lives.

So if you are looking for a great book to start the conversation with your daughters about the facts of life this is the one book you should read. It is written as a mom telling the story of how she became pregnant the first she had sex and the impact that decision made on the rest of her life.
