Gatlinburg: Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Nothing says family vacation destination like any of the parks in our national parks system. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is actually our nation’s most visited park and with good reason. This park is expansive and beautiful and is just full of stuff to do.

Best of all? It’s free.

Inside the park, there is plenty of hiking, camping, swimming, fishing, and boating to do to fill your days. With over 900 miles of trails to explore, you’ll never see it all. If camping isn’t your thing, get a hotel in nearby Gatlinburg, a great little town with lots of attractions of its own. 

This area is world-renowned for its attractions and entertainment. Your family is sure to have a great time.

Memphis: The Children’s Museum of Memphis

Memphis is best known for being a hotbed of musical influence in the blues, rock and roll and soul genres, but there’s a lot more to it than Beale Street and Graceland. One of the best family-friendly attractions in this incredible city is The Children’s Museum of Memphis.

This museum is targeted to kids ages two through ten, but the entire family will have a blast checking out all the amazing hands-on, interactive exhibits.  There’s an original 1909 Dentzel grand carousel for you to ride, and if you visit in the summertime, you can cool off in the museum’s outdoor splash park, too. 

Chattanooga: Lookout Mountain

The riverfront city of Chattanooga is on the southeastern border of this great state on the shores of the Tennessee River. It’s a small city that is easy to navigate and it is full of nature and history. 

Lookout Mountain is a multifaceted tourist attraction that is fun for the whole family. There are three attractions within this larger attraction.

The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a scenic train ride for rail enthusiasts of all ages. Ruby Falls is a breathtaking, 145-foot underground waterfall for nature lovers. Rock City is an impressive collection of gardens that includes surprising rock formations and views of seven states from the top. 

There’s so much to see and do at Lookout Mountain, it’s easy to spend a whole day there. It’s just one of the many Tennessee attractions for families in the area.

Pigeon Forge: Dollywood

Dollywood, Dolly Parton’s entertainment complex and theme parks, are known around the country as a really good time. Not only does this park include accommodations, shows, and great food, but the amusement parks are also a big draw for any family on vacation. 

Dollywood’s Splash Country includes a wide variety of water slides and rides for the whole family. Dollywood Theme Park offers tons of fun rides including the world’s fastest wooden roller coaster, the Lightning Rod, along with a number of other thrill rides and coasters. 

Nashville: Adventure Science Center

Not only is Nashville America’s Music City with countless attractions in music and country music history, but it also is a foodie destination for many. 

For children, there are many great things to do, but one of the best is the Adventure Science Center. This museum features over 175 hands-on, interactive exhibits with themes including biology, physics, air and space, energy, and earth science. You can entertain yourself for hours inside this place, if not days, and there are always new things being added for returning visitors as well.
