How To Keep Your Bathroom Mirrors From Fogging Up from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

This a pet peeve that you’re bound to notice, especially on days when the to-do list is just a little too long and you’ve slept in just a little too late. I’m talking about when you want to hop out of the shower and get dolled up for the day only to find that you can’t see your own reflection. Of course, you could just use your towel to wipe away the fog, but then you have streaks you’ll have to clean up later. Now, you can always just wait for the mirror to clear up, but what if I told you we could take those extra minutes back? It’s a little thing but knowing how to keep your bathroom mirrors from fogging up just helps you get your day started just a little quicker.

Ventilation

Our mirrors fog up when we shower for the same reason our car windows do on a cold day. The warm steam of the shower touches the cooler mirror and, when it does, water vapor condenses on the surface. So, what do we do when our car windows fog up? We try to make the temperature inside the car closer to the temperature outside the car by opening a window. If you open a window in your bathroom, you can do the same thing to keep your mirrors fog-free when you shower.

Car Wax

If you don’t have a window in your bathroom, don’t fret. You can keep your bathroom mirrors from fogging up by treating the mirror itself with things you may have lying around the house already. If you have some car wax sitting in your garage, try buffing out your mirrors with it. Car wax keeps water from cooling too much on surfaces, which is why waxed cars tend to stay cleaner than other cars. That same quality will keep the fog off your windows.

Vinegar

If you don’t have any car aficionados in the house, there’s no need to race out to the store as long as you have some vinegar in the pantry. Just fill a spray bottle half-way with water and half-way with vinegar along with a drop or two of soap and a drop of lemon juice for scent. Then, throw away your bottle of Windex, y’all, because this solution will clean your glass and keep it from fogging. And don’t worry if you hate the smell of vinegar—it usually goes away after an hour or so.

Fogless Mirror

This is perfect if you’re looking for a “for him” gift that you can use, too. They now make small shaving mirrors you can stick on your shower wall that are made to remain fog-free even during your shower. If you want another backup plan for if you don’t have windows, car wax, or vinegar around, you can always put one of these up. That way, you can get a head start on your makeup and hair while you’re waiting for the fog to disappear off the main mirrors.
