Breast Augmentation – Different Strokes for Different Folks but a Great Outcome

Breast Augmentation - Different Strokes for Different Folks but a Great Outcome

This is guest post.

Following the birth of our twins and a decision to limit the size of the latest Australian family to five my wife turned increasingly to thoughts of her appearance. Being a mum again was great and she threw herself into the challenge of twins with an enthusiasm that I always knew she had ever since we met in Hanoi, Vietnam, what seems an age ago now. She became an Aussie citizen after marriage and the family arrived on cue as we settled into life in the Sydney suburbs.  But there had always been a nagging concern my wife had about her shape. She was small and in good proportion but wanted a slightly more voluptuous figure. Postpartum these became more frequent as she looked at herself disapprovingly in the mirror. Eventually, and with my full support for my wife’s wishes, we contacted a breast implant surgery in Sydney. Of course, we had done our research but the one we chose was especially recommended and ticked all the right boxes. One of the deciding factors was initially seeing a specific Asian Breast Implant section on their website. That inspired confidence that if we – okay my wife – went through with the procedure it would not be a one-size-fits-all all operation, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Anything but. The surgeon was able to explain in a frank and detailed free consultation that there were many differences between Asian anatomical structure and breast tissue compared to Western women.

Asian skin can be thinner and have a different elasticity. Then there were the size requirements my wife had in mind, that were entirely her own choice. She wanted a modest size and was not after a beach body! The surgeon was able to recommend exactly how this would look and later with a “during surgery implant sizing” that was amazing in helping expectations and outcomes.

The surgeon explained that the procedure would account for her thinner skin and would favor the submuscular placement of the implant to avoid rippling of the skin. I became a semi-expert as my wife made the final decision.

She went through with the procedure and what was most impressive were the follow-ups as she completed the postoperative phase. This included close monitoring of skin healing and scar management and reassurance when each side of her cleavage seemed to be a slightly different size. This adjusted itself as the healing process continued.

I think what this fully qualified plastic surgeon achieved was a real understanding of the Asian mindset despite being a man of Western heritage. He understood cultural beauty standards and was able to tailor-make the result to fit the mind and body.

And that’s where I will end. Because this wasn’t about my wishes even though the results are very pleasing to me.

It was more about my wife feeling better about herself. Treating herself to feeling good if you like.

And ending up happier, which is what it’s all about.
