6 Ways To Keep The Birds Away From Your Home

6 Ways To Keep The Birds Away From Your Home from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Having birds swarm around your home can be pretty irritating. For one, you will have to deal with their droppings. And secondly, these birds can crash into your home and damage things like lights, windows, and so on. So, if you have been experiencing any bird problems recently on your property and have been looking for ways to keep them away from your house, then the following tips can help you do that.

Use Bird Spikes

The easiest way to discourage birds from loafing around the top of your home is by installing bird spikes. You may have seen certain walls that are covered with spikes on top. This is done to prevent burglars from jumping over the wall. The same idea is behind bird spikes. When these spikes are installed at a spot where birds tend to congregate, the birds will stop coming to that place. After all, if they can’t land on the surface without spikes injuring them, the birds won’t consider coming there. However, ensure that you don’t install the bird spikes in areas where children might also reach.

Clear Out Organic Waste

If you have a habit of throwing the organic waste from your home into a garbage can outside, then you should stop it immediately. You have to understand that most of these birds are probably hunting for food. As such, if you put any leftover food and other organic waste right next to your home, what do you think will happen?  Right – birds will be attracted to that place. So, as far as possible, avoid putting any organic waste outside your home. Instead, seal it off tightly inside a garbage can inside the home until you can dispose of it somewhere else. And if you do end up putting the organic waste into the outside garbage cans, make sure that you shut them down tightly.

Avoid Feeding Birds

When a bird suddenly appears in your home, you might think it is a good idea to feed it. Never do that. Once you start feeding a bird, then in all likelihood, it will keep coming back. And before you know, other birds might also start loitering around your home in hopes that you might feed them too. So, make sure you never feed any bird within your property. And if you are living with children, instruct them to follow this rule.

Sticky Repellants

There are repellents available that have a sticky texture. So, if you find a spot where the birds tend to land very often, you can place these repellants at those spots. The next time the birds land at these regions, the repellant will stick onto their feet, causing great discomfort. As such, the birds are less likely to come back to that spot. And even if some of them come back, as long as you apply the sticky repellant, these birds will eventually stop landing on the spot. On the flipside, because they are sticky, sand and other dust will quickly settle and mix with these repellents.  As such, you will have to reapply them many times.

Netting

You can also add netting to your house. This is especially useful if you see that the birds are trying to create nests on the awnings and overhangs. When you lay out the netting, the birds won’t be able to set up their nests. And this will discourage them from coming to that area. Placing the netting is an easy process that you can do by yourself. Just make sure that you get good quality netting from the store. And in case you are not too sure about your ability to properly lay down the netting, reading up on advice such as Pest Solutions Bird Control can help you determine what steps you can take to get rid of those pesky birds

Always Remove Nests

Now, if you see that the birds have already started forming nests, then remove these nests immediately. If you neglect it, then it will only attract more birds to the spot, with each of them looking to set up their own nests. But if you keep destroying the bird nests every single time, the birds will get the message that the place is not safe to set up a nest and they will soon stop coming to the spot.

In addition to the above tactics, you can also use strings, wire meshes, and other things to deter birds from landing on your home. Try them out and you will soon be able to make your house free from birds.
