I am in the process of reading this awesome book but today is my stop on the tour. This tour is a little different from most of the tours that I do instead of reviewing the whole book (which I will be doing later) I will be examining just one chapter of the book. This chapter was called “Uncovering The Real Nativity”, it was chapter 19 in the book.

I will have to say that this chapter got me thinking about those images that we associate with the nativity and the birth of Christ. Think about the images that we associate with the birth. We automatically think that Mary was in labor during the trip and that Jesus was born the night they arrived in Bethlehem. But scriptures say different. If you take the time to examine the scriptures that portray the story of Jesus’ birth then you would realize that some of the images that we associate with the nativity are those that made up by man?

Think about these questions. Was there an innkeeper in the Bible? Does it really say that there were three wise men that came to visit the baby in the manager? Reexamine the passage of scripture that describe the birth and you will see that no where does it say that there was an inn keeper or that there were three kings. We just assume there are three kings because wise men bought three gifts.

This book made me reëxamine what I thought the nativity was and made me really appreciate the birth of Christ more. Not that I did not appreciate it before but I appreciate it more now. I will say that there was one thing that the book suggested to make the nativity more prominent in your Christmas celebration, give the nativity scene a prominent place in your holiday decorations. I will say that we do that but we take it one step further, the nativity scene is one piece of our Christmas celebration that we leave up all year-long to remind us what a great Savior we have and the sacrifice that He made for us.

Well that is my take on the chapter I was given to review, to read what other bloggers are saying about the chapters they were given check out the #waronchristmas tour.

  1. That was so weird to think about the “3” and the innkeeper – you always just go with that based on the plays you see and everything. I though the facts in this chapter were amazing! Great post! Shared & following now!
