Tijuana Flats : Recipe For A Great Evening

Disclosure: My husband and I were invited to be guests at Tijuana Flats Turkey Chorizo Tasting. All opinions are 100% mine.

Raul and I Tijuana Flats

Have you ever walked into a place and got the vibe that this is where you belong? If you have then you know what I am talking about. Last week, my husband and I had a date night at Tijuana Flats. I am making a conscience effort to include Raul in any event that I am invited to as part of my dedication this year. The moment we stepped in the door at Tijuana Flats we felt like part of the family.

Tijuana Flats Interior

Everybody from the waitresses to the cooks, to managers to marketing people, were just so friendly and warm. They were just so welcoming as if they were inviting us into their homes for a meal.

Tijuana Flats Bathroom Door

I will admit that I received the email I had never heard of Tijuana Flats before but now I am a huge fan. Their food is amazing ya’ll. I think I had to waddle out to the car, I ate so much. And I also loved the fact that we were able to take food from the tasting home to the girls, who by the way can’t wait for us to go again.

Let me tell you a little bit about Tijuana Flats, the company, and their food before I continue to gush over the service.

Tijuana Flats Hot Bar
Tijuana Flats Signature Hot Sauce Bar

Tijuana Flats was originally opened in Winter Park, Florida. The owner and his wife worked in the first store growing this store into a chain. They not only have a chain of stores, they also have a line of hot sauces as well as give back to the community. I love companies that give back don’t you? And the name of their foundation that gives back is called Just in Queso. I love that name. In 2007 alone, they gave $3 million back to the community to support causes like breast cancer research, habitat for humanity, and childhood cancer. They also offer their employees volunteer opportunities as well.

And their food is amazing. If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw all those amazing dishes last week. But just in case you don’t here is a quick roundup of what we taste tested.

Tijuana Flats Trio and Red Sangria

First up was the Tijuana Trio. This was chips with salsa, queso, and guacamole. Their guacamole was out of this world. I chose to wash my trio down with their Red Sangria. And let me just say I wasn’t disappointed.

Tijuana Flats Norrito Rice Bowl

Next up was Blackened Chicken Norrito Rice Bowl. (Norrito means no burrito.) My taste buds came alive when the flavors of the rice, black beans, cheese, blackened chicken, guacamole and of course my favorite sour cream. I thought to myself could anything taste better than this? And the answer was Yes.

Tijuana Flats Turkey Chorizo Tostados

Then we had Turkey Chorizo Tostadas. These were lightly fried corn tortillas with refried beans, melted cheese, salsa, sour cream and their signature turkey chorizo. I have always been a fan of Tostadas but this dish took it to another level.

Okay, you are probably thinking wow that is a lot of food, but wait I am not done yet. We still had 3 more dishes to sample.

Tijuana Flats Hangover Burrito Turkey Chorizo

Next up was the Hangover Burrito. This was amazing. It was unlike any typical burrito I have ever had and remember Raul is a native of Mexico. The burrito was filled with rice, beans, turkey chorizo, potatoes, and a fried egg. Yummy doesn’t begin to describe this burrito.

Tijuana Flats Beef Flautas

Then we went on to sample the Flautas. First up were the beef flautas. They were yummy, but they couldn’t top their chocolate cookie dough flautas.

Tijuana Flats Chocolate Flautas

Folks, I think I died and went to heaven when I tasted those. It is cookie dough wrapped in a flour tortilla, lightly fried, topped with powdered sugar and served with a side of chocolate syrup. There went my diet. LOL But did I regret it, not one bit.

Tijuana Flats Ceiling Tiles

Okay, enough about the food, back to the restaurant. While we were waiting for the other people to arrive, Sarah, the marketing director told us about the unique ceiling tiles. Each tile was painted by a customer of the Tijuana Flats. She said if a customer wants they can take home a tile to paint,  and bring back to the store for display how awesome is that.

I will have to say that once again the staff was amazing. And I wanted to end this post with a big shout out to two groups that made this evening so memorable.

Tijuana Flats Chefs

First is the amazing chefs for the night. Scott, Sid, and Will really out did themselves and because of their excellent food, we will be going back soon.

Tijuana Flats Amazing Staff

And then there is Brad, the General Manager of the Cary Location, Sarah, the Marketing Director, and Adam who oversees all the restaurants in Cary and Virginia Beach. They rolled out the welcome wagon and made us feel like royalty. And I will say that I noticed that they did that for all the customers that dined there that night, that weren’t part of the tasting,

Tijuana Flats

Folks, take my word for it if you ever have a chance to eat at Tijuana Flats, which by the way is Tex-Mex, run don’t walk to this amazing restaurant. It will be an experience you won’t forget.
