If you are like me, you have worked hard to gain the reputation that you have whether it is good or bad. I strive to always to do my best. But there can be just one misspoken word or one person’s interpretation of what you said can just take away what you worked so hard for.
Here is an example. The other day I was handing out music awards at the kindergarten graduation at the school I work at. I had planned what I was going to say except for the last part when I went off script. Saying that I am looking forward to seeing them next year.  ( I was only filling in this year) I saw the look on some of the teachers’ faces and I immediately knew I had to do damage control. I asked our principal if she knew what I meant by it.  ( You see have been at that school whether it was volunteering or working for 13 years and just because Gracie was graduating I was not leaving.) And she said yes she knew exactly what I meant by it. But see if I had not immediately confronted the situation head on than it could have been a bigger problem.

This is something that  I learned from reading Online Reputation Management for Dummies. So you see this book is beneficial online and as well as offline.  Here is a brief description of the book.

In today’s social media world, reputations can be trounced by a tweet. You need a plan for online reputation management that lets your brand weather any storm, and that’s exactly what this book is for. Here’s how to create a personalized preparedness system that not only helps you deal with online chatter, but also builds your online reputation.

Here are few brief points that this book covers.

  • More than a disaster plan- Learn to craft a plan that creates positive opportunities and maximizes your online presence.
  • Set the groundwork- Using Google Analytics, Google Alerts and social media tools to research current trends and customers or your fan base.
  • Access the experts- learn from the PR professional and other bloggers as well. I will have to say that I often ask for the advice of fellow bloggers before I tackle a very difficult subject on the blog or addressing a situation with other bloggers.
  • Learn to Listen- taking advantage of feedback from others. Learn from the good as well as the bad.
  • What to do when trouble occurs- learn how to respond immediately
  • The silver lining- always looks for the one positive in all the negative. If you look hard enough you will find it.  That will make you less discouraged.

This was a very informative read and I am very glad that I had a chance to review this wonderful book. I even had some help reading it.
