Frugal Entertainment Tips for Poor Students
For those of you enrolled in the online doctor of education program at Maryville University, you are obviously working hard to secure a rewarding future. So while you’re probably spending many hours studying for your online EDD degree, it’s important to have a little downtime where you can relax. Unfortunately, a student budget tends to dictate what you’re able to do as far as entertainment goes!
Not to worry because we’ve put together some handy frugal entertainment tips that you can make use of. These tips will allow you to stick to your strict student budget while having some fun.
Learn About Free Events
It’s hard to believe that there is such a thing as “free events” nowadays, but the fact of the matter is that once you start looking around you’ll find there are tons of things to do for free. Check out your city or town community events calendar, usually found on their website. You can find information regarding parades, festivals, free plays, art shows, and more. Some bookstores and coffee shops also offer free entertainment evenings that you can enjoy.
School Events
One of the best places to find free events – or at least cheap events – is right through your very own school. You can find posters, leaflets, check the school’s website, and social media pages. It’s also a great way to socialize and meet other students. When you are taking an online EDD program it can sometimes be hard to meet other students.
Host a Potluck Dinner
Hosting a dinner for your friends can be a bit pricey, but if you turn it into a potluck dinner then suddenly the cost is quite minimal. You can even set it up as a regular monthly event with each of you taking turns as the host. A fun twist to the potluck is to create themes for each one. This will allow you to try new foods and recipes.
Games Night
Here’s another event you can host at home. Why not set up a games night? You could pick a board game, card game, or even set up a beer pong table. Before you know it you’ll be attracting a crowd of friends to your game night.
Catch a Matinee
Going to the movies is something that has become rather pricey, especially if you purchase snacks. A good way to save money is to catch a matinee instead. Most theaters offer a discount if you go to the matinee. To save money on snacks, be sure to fill up at home before heading to the movies.
Check for Online Deals
The internet is absolutely loaded with great entertainment deals; it just takes a bit of searching. Websites such as StubHub, WagJag, and Groupon are excellent for finding cheap concert tickets, sporting event tickets, activities, and more.
Don’t Let a Budget Stop You
Just because you are living on a tight budget it doesn’t mean you have to give up entertainment and having fun. Instead, it’s time to get creative and look for new and fun ways to save money.
