We are affected by what we surround ourselves with. That includes where we work and live, the sounds we hear, the scents we smell, and the people we surround ourselves with. They all have an impact on how we feel, act, and think. If you want to express your creativity and become more positive in your thinking, you should  create an environment and climate that promotes and fosters just that.

For instance,  before I purchased the blog cabin, I was always distracted by the dishes in the sink, the rooms that needed to be picked up, the vacuuming that needed to be done, and the endless loads of laundry that needed to be washed, dried, folded and put away. I had always dreamed of having an office outside of my home, I just never thought that it would be 50 feet from my backdoor.

While you don’t have to go as far as I do, you should give some serious thought to where you are working. Look around at your surroundings, your workspace, your home, and even the people around you including team members, employees, and family. Do you have space where at the end of the day you can shut the door and say goodnight to work?

You don’t? Okay then look around at your home and see if there is some part of a room you can take over. Starting with things that make you smile or feel good. Maybe it’s a nice sunny room or a dark office with no distractions. Maybe it’s a plant on your desk or a fun poster on the wall. Maybe it’s sitting in a recliner instead of at a desk or being able to hop on the treadmill throughout your day to keep your body fit.

Are you surrounding yourself with the things you need for work? When I first moved into the Blog cabin, I carried my laptop back and forth for work. But I soon found that was beginning to be a chore. Ultimately, I would end up running in the house or out to the Blog Cabin, because I would most certainly have left the charger for the laptop in one of those places. And my computer was about to die. Raise your hand if that has ever happened to you. So then I got smart and decided that I needed a desktop for the blog cabin. Now granted it wasn’t in my budget at the time, but I kept watching for a great desktop sale to make work easier for me. And all my waiting and watching the sales paid off and I now have one that work from.

Then, next think about what helps you think. Maybe it’s having something to fidget with. Maybe it’s going for a walk, having the tv on in the background or listening to music. You know yourself and what works for you. Ask yourself the question What does it take to get you into the zone where work becomes easy and you have your best ideas? What puts you in a good mood? Those are the things you want in your home office.

Start small and keep adding to it. Keep working on it and encourage the people around you to do the same. And don’t be afraid to change it up every once in a while. I have had my blog cabin since 2018 and I have changed the arrangement of furniture at least 20 times if not more.

Have fun with your workspace in your home office. Tell me do you work from home and if so what fun things do you have around you to help with your creativity.
