Contraband Review: Share Some #Wahlberg Love

As I mentioned on my Facebook page a week ago, I got my husband to take me to the opening weekend of Contraband, the new Mark Wahlberg movie.
Here is the poster outside the movie theater. I did not like the way the light hit on Mark Wahlberg’s face so I had to take a close up of that one.
First of all let me state that this was unusual that hubby and I went out without the girls but also going to the movies was so out of character for us. Normally we just don’t seem to have the time and money to spend on each other with three growing girls where two of them happen to be teenagers. Well you know how that goes. So I set my mind to it when this movie came out we were going to see it. I have to admit I did not have to do a lot of talking for Raul to agree because I have been saying all along we need time together because before we knew it the girls would be all grown up and there would be us two staring at each other. He also discovered that I am a cheap date lol. We went to the Sunday afternoon matinee and it cost a whole 12 bucks for the movie.
So on to the movie. First let me tell you I have been patiently waiting for this movie since I saw the previews when Mark was on Jimmy Kimmel live. I knew it was a must see movie. Of course one of the obvious reasons was that Mark Wahlberg is in it duh. But another reason is because it looked really cool and interesting. Granted I thought that they would show more of Mark without his shirt on but alas there were only 2 very short scenes that this actually happened.
Next the actors in this movie were awesome. I was not only impressed with Wahlberg  but also Giovanni Ribsi, Ben Foster, J.K. Simmons  and Kate Beckinsale. Giovanni Ribsi , the bad guy, is an actor that has been seen in just about everything I remember him as Phoebe’s brother on friends. Ben Foster, the best friend of Mark’s character, was  new face for me. I admitted I had to look him up to see what he had acted in before this movie. He acted in the Laramie Project which dealt with the aftermath of the murder of Matthew Shepard. J.K. Simmons, who plays the Captain of the container ship, was a familiar face though he is currently on one of my favorite shows, The Closer. He plays Chief Pope. So to see him in this role was not a stretch. Kate Beckinsale plays Mark’s wife. I remember her from the movie , Click, with Adam Sandler. All I can say is she is one lucky woman in this movie.
This movie had just enough action to keep both my husband and I interested. Toss in a few jokes and a couple of no shirts screens ( only 2!! big tears here) and this was definite must see for both my husband and I. Normally we do not agree on movies but we both liked this one. There was enough twists and turns to keep you guessing as what would happen next. And just when you think you have figured things out guess what you haven’t. So if you get a chance to see Contraband go and see it. It is sure not to disappoint. At least that is my opinion.
The views expressed in this review are my own. I was not paid to share this with you but wanted to share the Wahlberg love. LOL

  1. There’s not a lot to think about while watching it and we’ve seen some of this plot before in other films, but for a movie opening in January, it’s actually pretty damn good thanks to a couple of cool heists and a relatively good cast. Nice review.
