Have you ever felt that no matter what you do it seems that someone has it out for you? That your faith is being tested at every turn? Now imagine that you living during the time where modern conveniences wasn’t within an arm reach away. That at times the only thing you have to rely on is yourself and your faith. For some people they cannot bear the constant pressure and they crack but for others they come out stronger and wiser. That is the story behind Woman of Courage by Wanda Brunstetter.

Here is a brief look at the book.

Jilted by her fiance, Amanda Pearson gives up on romance and turns to her Quaker faith for reassurance. She becomes determined to the follow the Rev. and Mrs. Spalding into the western wilderness to minister to the Nez Perce Indians. But a three-thousand-mile journey in 1837 is fraught with danger for anyone, and soon Amanda finds herself recovering from near death in a trapper’s cabin. His Indian wide becomes Amanda’s first convert – and friend. But the trapper and his intriguing half-Indian friend want nothing to do with Christians. Buck McFadden has received nothing but pain from white men who claims Christ as their lord. He wants only to be left to his solitary life, but he can’t seem to walk away from Amanda. Amanda fears she’ll never reach the mission in the Lapwai Valley. This journey has become life-changing for her- and those she meets- and the choices she must make are almost unbearable.

I will have to say that I really identified with Amanda in this book. It seems like since January we can’t catch a break. But unlike Amanda, I had to learn to rely on faith. Sure just like Amanda, I had times when I questioned why us- but as soon as I learned- God has a plan for all of us, we just need to sit back and listen to see the directions He is leading us to. I also identified with Amanda in that sometimes we want something so bad that we look at it through rose colored glasses and not noticing the flaws. But once the flaws are exposed we wonder why we didn’t see it all along.

I will have to say that I loved this book. And I am so glad that there are awesome books out there like this to read. It also made me realize just how lucky I am in to live in the age of modern conveniences.
