What’s Going on With Me??

Those that follow me on Facebook know that things got a little hairy this past weekend.  Now is a chance to let everyone know what is going and to update everyone. First and foremost I want to thank all those that said Prayers for Gracie the past couple of days. She is on the mend. I hate to think what it would have happened if I had not taken her to the ER when I did. For those who do not know what happened here’s the story.

When I went to the school on Friday, the nurse told me that Gracie had come to her about an insect bite. She said that it looked like Gracie scratched it and that she put a band aid on it and sent her back to class. When we were leaving school that day I had the nurse recheck it, and she said just to put warm compresses on it. So with that and Benadryl I thought we would be ok.

On Sunday, I noticed that it was getting redder and that it was spreading. I called the peds office and got the nurse on call. She said to take her temp and then to apply the antibotic cream. She did not think that she needed to be seen but to bring her in the next day. I then decided to outline the redness. What was a little bite had spread into this!!

After an hour of watching it grow. I called the nurse on call again because she now had red streaks leading from her elbow to her armpit.

The nurse then told me that she would page the doctor, and they would call me back within a half hour. A half hour later on the dot the nurse called and said to go to the ER. We got to the ER at 9:00 pm and was in for a long wait.  I  think the wait was longer actually to see the Dr then the whole time the Doctor spent with us. At 11 pm we were walking out of the ER with the diagnosis of an infection ( DUH I could have told them that) that had the potential to turn into MRSA. The infection was already attacking her lymphatic system that was what the red streak was about. We were given a dose of antibiotic at the ER then told to give her four doses a day for the next ten days.  We got home between 11:30 and 12 and let’s just say we all slept in the next day. I followed up with the Peds Dr calling to make an appt like the ER Dr told me to. Their earliest appt was 6:00 PM on Monday. At this point, I was so exhausted I just took that appointment hoping that everything would turn out ok. We checked in at the Dr’s office at 5:20 and were walking out of there by quarter to 6. They were slow, so they took us early. The Dr. said to continue the antibiotics that were prescribed, but he wanted to see us back in 2 days. Gracie stayed home from school on Monday and also Today. I had a sub for Monday and knew today was a light load and that the three classes that I had to teach could be switched so I could teach them all this morning and that I could come home at 11:30. Maddie ( big Sister normally does not have to be at school until 11:50. That is the advantages of having online classes. But today she had a field trip that she was going on, so she had to be at school by 11:30. This left about 45 minutes that I needed someone to watch Gracie. So I asked her dad if he could take his lunch hour early and stay with her until I got there. (His hours are  a lot more flexible than mine) And I have never seen anyone throw such a fit about something like that before. I mean seriously I love my husband but sometimes he can be such a MAN!!!) So I worked a half day today coming home to take care of my Sweet Gracie. Tomorrow hopefully Gracie will be able to go back to school. So that is where I am at!!!!

Can you say exhausted and emotional and on top of everything else my friend is visiting UGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
