Even though baseball is America’s past-time, it is also has a huge following in Mexico. When we were there a few years ago, my husband got the biggest kick of being able to play on the team that represented their community, La Rosa, with his brothers and nephews.

Because he loves this game so much, I decided to create a new version inspired by my laundry detergent of all things. When I was in the laundry aisle of our local Walmart, I saw that all® had a new scent, all® Fresh Tropical Mist™.

All In Stores

Wondering what baseball and laundry detergent has to do with anything? Well because after I had washed our clothes with all® Fresh Tropical Mist™, my senses awoke with the smell of fresh tropical flowers and I instantly wished that I could be on a tropical island, sipping some kind of drink with pineapple in it. A tropical flower in my hair, with my sunglasses on, sunbathing as the breeze from the ocean, washed over me.

I knew even though our checking account would not allow us to go on at tropical vacation; I could bring the tropics to my backyard. So begin the idea of tropical water balloon baseball. The first thing I did to were to create some bases. These were easy to make. I just painted pictures of tropical things on the bases that I found at a local yard sale. This is where it is great to have teenagers, because Mikaela and her boyfriend, Lyman, helped me out there.

I had bought water balloons for the baseball game. However, I found that they were a little too small. So I looked around the house and found some rubber gloves. So I used them instead.  I added water and food coloring to the gloves and tied the end in a knot.

Why Food Coloring tropical water balloon baseball
As you can tell by this picture, Mikaela got the most hits. She was covered with colored water.

Why add food coloring you ask, because it makes it fun. And in the end, you can see who got the most hits. For the bat, we just used an old plastic bat that we had hanging around.

This was an entirely fun game to play. We loved playing it so much that we played it again, but this time when it was raining. And this was, even more, fun than the heat of North Carolina.

I never knew that when I bought all® Fresh Tropical Mist™ to clean up all the tough stains from the girls playing soccer and hubby’s grease stains from work that I would end up being swept away with the smell of the tropics to create a fun game like this. Who knew right?

And what is even better is that there is a coupon available so you can save even more. So maybe I can take the tropical vacation I have always wanted.

  1. This does look like a fun way to spend a summer afternoon. I wish I would have had it available to me when I was making my roundup. 🙂
It is way cheaper to buy rubber gloves versus balloons in most cases. Plus, they can hold more water.
