The Value of A Dollar

value of dollar

My husband is a native of Mexico. When we go to visit his family that still live there, which is a majority of them we do not take a lot of money with us. Why do you ask because the United States dollar is so strong there? If something cost 30 pesos in conversion terms it is roughly $3.00 in American currency.

My girls love going to visit not only because they are visiting family but also they get to go shopping there. And their money will go a lot farther than if they shopped here in the states. Shopping in Mexico is an experience like no other. I personally love to go to the open air market where you can find anything from a fancy dress (think prom or pageant) to flowers to food.

It is nothing to walk through the market and go from one stall with dresses to one right next door to it selling food.

Their open air markets are not unlike our flea markets- except they are open seven days a week. Yes they have actual brick and mortar stores there as well but my girls and I preferred to shop at the open air market. It is after all an experience like no other. The stall owners are nicer and more willing to negotiate their prices so you can get an even better bargain.  Which equals to more clothes for three teenage girls so you know they are in hog heaven because of that.

So tell me have you ever shopped in a foreign country? If so which country and how strong was the dollar there? Where you able to make your money go further or did you find that you had to scrimp and save to afford the niceties there? Share so it can help others plan their dream vacations.
