Victor Hugo once said that “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” And I am a big fan of this quote. I lost count on how many times when I was teaching music that I would see the face of a child light up because music is the one thing they excelled in. Music has so many healing powers. Think about when we are young our mothers sing lullabies to us to calm us down, when we get older music soothes us as we are riding down the road blaring the radio. Music can be found most anywhere. One just has to open the windows or door to the outside world and hear music in nature.

Even our dog, Allie knows about the healing power of music. She is jumping for joy.

I remember when my sister was in the hospital the last week of her life, we played her favorite songs to cover up the beeping of the ventilator. It helped to soothe her and let her calmly pass into the next life. The thought of hearing  the Marine Corps Hymn makes me very happy because it reminds me of my dad who you all know we lost in January. But I can still picture him standing so proud as that hymn was played because that embodied all that he was.

Do you also know that even a song can also be used in drug rehab therapy to help those who need it the most? Getting over an addiction is a tough thing but with the help of music it makes it a little easier. Because music is known to soothe the soul.

Right I want you to think of the top 5 songs that you blare when they come on the radio because they just make you feel alive. Here are my top five songs

  1. Night Changes by One Direction (don’t judge)
  2. All of Me by John Legend
  3. FourFiveSeconds by Rhianna
  4. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran
  5. Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars

So tell me do you find it healing? Tell me your top five songs.
