The Franciscan : An Intriguing Read

Disclosure: I received a copy for the purpose of this review. All opinions expressed are 100% mine.

Today marks the beginning of Lent, yesterday I shared a recipe today I am going to share with you an awesome piece of writing about the Catholic church. Although this is a work of fiction, I was drawn into this story and I felt I was actually there watching the story unfold. This awesome piece of writing is The Franciscan by W.R. Park. Here is a brief summary of the book.

“The pope is not infallible.” When the newly elected Pope Francis utters this bold and unprecedented statement, he captures the attention of the world’s population. His reforms leave no corner untouched as he strips away the mask so long held before the face of the papacy. Bringing with him and open-minded candor rarely seen by public figures – he’s an inspiration to his followers – and a threat to those who oppose him.

First I love that this book is about a Catholic Pope who wants to bring the church back to what it was supposed to be. One based in love and compassion and not greed. I also love how it intertwines the story of past popes into the present. The reader not only learns about the current organization of the Catholic Church but also gets a little bit of history lesson of past Popes.

I love that it shows that even the Pope struggles with making the right decision and just like us he too has to God in prayer to aid in decision making. Just imagine if everyone in the world would go to prayer first, the world would be a better place.

I also love how fast paced this book reads. It is not one of those books that drags and you would think that adding the historical references in, it would be. But Park’s addition of the historical references only adds to the intrigue and mystery of the story. If you are looking for a great mystery book to read than check out The Franciscan.

  5. Can you even imagine the pressure a pope or other world figure has to make the right decisions? Even with aids by their sides, it’s got to be amazingly difficult at times.
