Recalling Memories with Blueberries #LittleChanges
“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council. I received a stipend to facilitate my purchase for my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
My fondest memories of being a young girl were when my family would pack up in the Volkswagen van we had and head off on an adventure. Most of the time the experiences would be planned out by my mom and dad. All four of us girls never knew where we would end up, but we knew there would be fun to be had when we got there. One such adventure was blueberry picking. There is just something about taking our recycled coffee can happen to the blueberry bush to pick our berries. I also loved that during this time my parents sought each one of us out to just chat with us and caught up with what was going on in our lives. With four girls all different ages it was never an easy feat, but my parents somehow made it work. I just recently with the passing of my hero, my dad, traveled back through time to those days when life was simpler, and my dad was a vibrant and young dad.
I wonder did my parents know that when they were making sure to teach us how to eat healthy and to show us where some of our food came from did they also know that they were making memories as well. I am sure they did but still I stand in awe of all they managed to accomplish and give us as children. I can remember the joy when we all were told that they would sample a few of blueberries as we picked them. They were always so delicious and juicy, full of flavor. Before we knew it, we had eaten more than we had picked. That was our summertime treat.
Imagine my surprise to learn that nowadays blueberries can be bought all year round. Of course, it is not the same as when we would pick them ourselves, but I still can share this delicious and healthy treat with my girls and tell them stories of how much fun I had with their Grampie and Nana picking blueberries.
With the passing of my dad two weeks ago I decided that I would make my blueberries memories with my girls incorporating my blueberry childhood memories. Although there are no places around here to pick blueberries this time of year I was able to pick blueberries at our local grocery lstore.
With blueberries in hand, my girls and I decide to try a recipe called Blueberry PanMuffins.
Basically in this recipe, you mix up your favorite pancake mix and add blueberries to it. But instead of making pancakes you put the mix into muffin tins and make PanMuffins. You bake them in a preheated 350 oven for about 15 minutes. This is a great on the go breakfast food for my girls as well as a healthy snack.
Here another thing that is great about blueberries the Blueberry Council is hosting sweepstakes to win a trip for 2 to LA for the Little Changes Kitchen Challenge. It runs from now until February 16, 2015. I will admit if I won I would be torn between taking my mom or my husband. After all, my mom and dad were the first ones to introduce me to the yumminess of blueberries.
