This Valentine’s Day was a hard one for all of us, but it was hardest on my mom. Imagine spending 55 Valentine’s Days married to the man you have known since you were 11 years old, and now suddenly he is gone. Losing my dad, the love of her life was probably the hardest thing my mom has gone through. It was harder than losing my sister because later that year she became a grandmother for the first time. Ever since my sister died, my mom has always worn an angel pin in her honor. I decided for Valentine’s Day that I wanted to give her something that she could wear to remember my dad. Since they grew up together, I knew a big part of her heart was missing so I thought why not give her heart. I found the perfect one from Perfect Memorials. It couldn’t have been any more perfect.

The front of the heart had beautiful scroll work design with the words “Always in My Heart.” On the back I had my dad’s name and a heart inscribed on it.

When I got it in the mail, I toyed with the idea of keeping it for myself, I actually wore it for a little while that day. But in the end, I decided that mom should have it. And how perfect that it came the day before Valentine’s, what a bonus.

My two younger girls and I spent Valentine’s night at my mom, as my husband had to work, eating dinner and watching movies. We bought the movies and the cheesecake and mom made dinner. We arrived at my mom’s with a bag of full of goodies. Cheesecake, movies, cards from all three girls to their Nana, a box of chocolates, and a little black box with the heart necklace inside.

My mom shed tears when she saw the necklace and she immediately took it out of the box and put it on. I am so glad that there is a company like Perfect Memorials that makes jewelry like this to help people with their grief. I also love that these memorials aren’t just for remembering the people you have lost, you can also use them to remember your fur babies.
