NASCAR Hall of Fame Rich in History

Disclosure: My family and I received complimentary passes in exchange for this review. All opinions stated are 100% mine.

Nascar Hall of Fame

Let me start this review by saying that we are huge NASCAR fans. We haven’t had time to sit down and watch a race lately because things have been so busy but when we do we all have favorites that we root for. In fact when Gracie was little she learned her numbers by watching the race and pointing to the cars as we said the numbers and then she would repeat them. Her biggest crush was Dale Jr. So with that little bit of background can you imagine the excitement that we felt when we stepped into the building that is the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Housed in a state of art facility in downtown Charlotte, this museum is one that is sure to delight a variety of viewers. From watching a movie about the history of NASCAR to exhibits as well as hands on activities this is one place that needs to be added to your list if you visit Charlotte in the near future. Although there was construction going on in front of the building it is clearly marked where to enter.

From the moment you step into the building you are greeted with such southern hospitality that you feel right at home. We entered the building and checked in at the security desk to get our tickets and then we exchanged our tickets for hard cards. If you ever watched NASCAR races hard cards are those things hanging around the necks of owners, pit crew as well as friends and family of the drivers- it allows them access to pit road during the race. After we exchanged  our cards, we entered the museum. Of course we had to stop and take a photo first ( but I am saving all that photo as well as the other photos that the whole family were in as a wrap post so stay tuned)  and then it was on to watch a movie about the history of NASCAR. I love how they included the drivers’ families in the history because the drivers would be nothing without the support of their loved ones.

After the movie we emerged to see the first of many exhibits. The famous Hudson Hornet , the car that is portrayed in movie Cars, is the first car that you see after exiting the movie. Passing by the cars you can see how far NASCAR has grown and how the cars have changed. Of course Gracie had to get a picture with the #88, but some how that picture was deleted.

After viewing the cars, we walked into the hall of fame which holds  members of NASCAR’s elite. To be in the Hall former drivers must have been active in NASCAR for at least 10 years, and retired for at least three. Non-drivers must have been involved in the industry at least ten years. Some candidates with shorter careers will be considered if there were special circumstances. I was impressed with the careers of many of the drivers.

Now you have seen what the NASCAR Hall of Fame holds so far, tune into tomorrow to see what else it contains. I even have a little video to show you.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (schedule subject to change) and has an attached parking garage on Brevard Street in Charlotte, NC. Adult admission is $19.95, military/senior admission is $17.95 and children admission is $12.95 (ages 5-12). Children younger than 5 are free. Ticket combos and group discounts also are available..
