Motivate Your Child with This Amazing Book

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for this review. All opinions expressed are 100% mine.

I have found a book that does not condemn a parent for the way their children act, instead it gently guides parents to slowly adapt to the way they deal with situations so that change can be more effective. The book Motivate Your Child by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller is a Christian parent’s guide to raising kids who do what they need to do without being told.

This book is probably the best parenting book I have ever read and believe me I have read a lot. When my middle daughter was younger we had problems with controlling her ADHD and her impulses. I wish that I had this book during this time because I think change would have happened a lot quicker and it would not have been as stressful to deal with her 7-12 years. Just read the summary of the book.

Parenting experts Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller demonstrate how God’s word gives us the best way to parent, one that builds strong internal motivation in children. When parents change the way they parent, kids change the way they live. This practical book explores a theology of internal motivation and then give parents real-life solutions to equip their kids for life.

I loved that it covers a variety of topics. I especially loved the chapter on having family time every week. In the example from that chapter, the authors show a real life situation where parents were willing to adapt and allow their children to become a part of the planning of their family night. I also loved the story of how two little girls opened their parents eyes to the presence of God as they sit at the dinner table. Every time I see an empty chair at a dinner table I think of this story and it brings tears to my eyes.

As I have said I wish I had this book when my middle daughter was growing up as it is a book that corrects the child as well as the parent.

  1. There seem to be a multitude of books out there on parenting. Not being a parent I can not say what I would do or would not do nor will I pretend to know any of the answers. Just remember every child is unique and it will take the parent to find the right method–perhaps this book will help someone out there.

  2. This sounds like an amazing book and I too enjoy reading and getting tips and trick for myself and how important it is for me to control myself in a situation! That truly helps my kids!

  3. Parenting is definitely a job that is constantly changing and I don’t think I will ever get it right. However it is always helpful to look at others ideas to see if you can incorporate it into your own style.
