June is Scleroderma Awareness Month

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Scleroderma Awareness. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

This past year has not been the best for me health wise. Although this past year has been trying, I am thankful that it was only a year. With our busy lives it does not seem like we. as moms and dads, are able to take a few minutes to take care of ourselves. Everytime I get sick I think of that commercial when the mom walks into her kitchen after being sick and it is destroyed. Ever felt like that?

It always seems that a mom’s work is never done. But did you know that there are some women who suffer from a rare autoimmune disease called Scleroderma. Did you know that the month of June is dedicated to Scleroderma Awareness.

This June with one simple click of your mouse, you can make a difference and pledge to spread awareness of this rare and often unheard of disease. I will have to admit that I had to do a little research on this disease. I went to the Scleroderma Awareness website but not because I have never heard of the disease but because I wanted to know more about it.

One of my very good friends has a mom and a sister who suffer from this disease. I had often heard of her mom and sister going to the doctors for injections not sure what exactly the injections were doing. I have had of conversations with her mom about her treatments and although I listened as she was talking I still wasn’t quite sure of what she was talking about. So I decided to do a little research so that I can better understand what these two amazing women go through.

  • It is an autoimmune disease that doctors do not know what causes it. Also there is no cure for it. It is because so few people even know that this disease even exists. And you can imagine there is little  or no funding for researchers to get the resources that they need to learn more about the disease.
  • It affects thousands of people. And even with  those numbers, billions of people are unaware of this disease.
  • It affects only 1 in 906 people. But women are also hit the hardest with over 50% of those disagnosed being females.

So  I challenge you to take the pledge to become Scleroderma Aware.
