Gift Ideas for Your College Student

Have you been racking your brain for gift ideas for your college student this  Christmas? I am wondering the same thing myself. Since Maddie has been away at school this year I have no clue as to what to give her for Christmas. I racked my brain and came up with some ideas as to what I could give her for Christmas. If you are in the same boat as me, hope that these suggestions will help you find something for your college student.

Headphones- Maddie has been lucky that she has had a dream roommate this semester but sadly her roommate is transferring after this semester so she will have to get another one. Headphones will let help her tune out her roommate if she is loud so she can study. I know Maddie’s boyfriend uses his headphones all the time as his roommate likes to play video games all of the time.

A cool lamp- Most of the time in college is spent studying so a good reading lamp is a must.

Games and/or Movies- Most college students don’t have a lot of money to go out so games and DVDs will help them relieve some stress when they are sick of studying.

Gift cards- I have read somewhere not to give college students money as they won’t use it for what it is supposed to be used so gift cards will ensure that they are being used for what it is intended to be used for. Grocery, coffee shop, places to eat and movie theaters gift cards are some places to think about getting gift cards from.

towel

Which brings me to the next thing on my list- coffee. As most college students spent staying up late studying they need something to keep them awake. Include in this kit some 100% Egyptian cotton high thread count towels. You can’t go wrong with these soft MicroLux 3 PC 100% Cotton Towel Set.

This three piece set of wash cloth, hand towel and bath towel would be a great addition to this basket. We have a set at our house and we absolutely love them. They are like you being wrapped in a cloud of cotton. They are so soft and the quality is better than what you can find in most stores. They are definitely a lot better than what we have our stores. I will only give my daughter the best and with these towels I know I am giving her the best.

Talking about soft you also might want to add some underwear and socks into the mix. The one thing that Maddie said she wish she had more of was underwear that way she would have to less laundry.

And lastly, add some food. You never can go wrong when it comes to food.  A student has to eat at least three times a day,

I hope these suggestions will help you decide what to give your college student for Christmas. Do you have any suggestions other than the ones listed?

  1. Great list. My step son is in his senior year of high school, so this will come in handy next year 🙂

  2. I need those towels for my own house. Hmm suggestions for a college student, I would say a mason jar filled with Quarters for Laundry.

  3. My oldest is in her second year of university but she still lives at home so her list is a little more unique. She wants gift cards to the local coffee shop and coloured pens for her white board. lol!
She wants yoga passes too which helps relieve stress!

  4. Great idea all around! I think a lot of these are perfect for the 18-24 set, whether they’re in college or not. Thanks for sharing!

  5. These are great ideas. It was always hard to figure out what to get my kids as gifts when they were in college!

  6. I love creating baskets for my family members and kids – and especially for my friends who are far away. My area grocery store was having a huge sale on hair products today – the high end ones, so I got a bunch of them to add to baskets! So fun – and I am going to grab some towel sets after reading your post!

  7. I love giving gift cards but not to any particular store. I agree that she never spends it on what I would like her to so that would be a great idea.

  8. Making a basket for the college kiddos is fun. They’re just learning that money doesn’t grow on trees too, so they appreciate everything that’s in there. 🙂

  9. I’m totally with you on the gift cards! I didn’t go away for college but had friends who did and there were plenty of times when they were short on cash. Gift cards would have been helpful with necessities! Great gift ideas!

  10. I like to give gift cards. The students I know enjoy treating themselves at the grocery store so I know the gift is appreciated.
