Fighting Bugs In the Home

bugs in home

I love the summer. First, the sun is most of the time Shining,  it is nice enough out in the morning to sit on my deck to do my devotionals.  the girls are out of school some more Road trips.  Our Pool is up so I get a lot of vitamin D.  Besides all of this, there is one thing that summer brings that I detest and that is bugs.

Think about it- those pesky things come out of nowhere. We have the biggest problem with ants in our house.  Just this morning I found ants all along our windowsill in the kitchen. Yep, ants, ants, and more ants specifically around our sink. I keep telling everyone you can’t just leave dishes in the sink and if they do they need to rinse them out. Gracie is really bad about leaving the knife she uses to make peanut butter sandwiches in the sink with peanut butter still on it. UGH!

Ants are the worst in our house but I was surprised by how many bugs are common in most houses.

That is why it is important to safeguard our homes against pests. One way to call an exterminator.  There are also natural ways to get rid of these pests.

  • Peppermint oil is great for getting rid of spiders. My hairdresser said that she sprays peppermint oil all around her pool outside and she never sees a spider.
  • You can also make your own bug repellent instead of using the ones that you can buy at the store. This is awesome as there is a joke in North Carolina that our state bird isn’t the cardinal but instead the mosquito. LOL Yep, these things are totally pesky and they are bad here where we live.
  • Not an insect but here is another tip, put moth balls out to keep snakes away. Plus they will repeal other things as well.
  • And I have also heard that oil of Rosemary is great for ticks. This is something that I will have to try because we have really bad ticks where we live.

  1. I had heard peppermint oil was a deterrent so last year I made up a spray bottle of witch hazel and peppermint oil, but it didn’t bother them at all. I’ll try these others.

  2. Oh man! That graphic of Boston really puts into perspective how many pests are out there! It’s hard to control them around the house and you have to jump on it early if you really want to enjoy your summer.
