Been To He double LL and Back

Recently our lives was touched by tragedy. Let me start with a little background. As many of you know and I have shared several times on this blog. My husband of 17 years, Raul, is a native of Mexico. He is number 9 out of 10 kids. So with that many older brothers and sisters  when we got married I became an aunt several times over. I lost count of how many nieces and nephews (great and otherwise ) I have once the number hit 100. This past weekend, the sweetest and most fun loving of them all Victor Raul was killed. Victor Raul was only 25 years old. He was leaving a church festival and some one called his name. He stop to turn back to see who it was and was shot 3 times in the back. One of the bullets went through his heart. Withing 15 minutes of being shot, Victor died in the arms of his older brother Flaco, in the back of a police car racing to meet the ambulance. This happened late Sunday night and we were told the news Monday morning. Victor has brothers who live in Virginia, one of them is Mikaela’s, my middle daughter’s Godfather. Raul and I made the decision to go see the 5 brothers in Virginia. We spent all day Tuesday up there with them. One of the brother, Miguel, who Victor was closest to does not know about his death. He was caught speeding Thursday night and is being held for an immigration hearing. So that is what our past couple of  days have been like. Victor was laid to rest yesterday in Mexico. I know that he is smiling and joking up there in Heaven with his Great Grandpa Simon. He was the one who always had a quick smile on his face. He was always happy to see the girls and play with them even when they were little.  My question to you is how has the world gotten so bad that amazing people like this can get shot down in cold blood?

  1. It is an awful tragedy. Just last year we lost a nephew who was shot out side of his home. He was only 21. My thoughts and prayers go out towards your family. It will never make sense but please believe he is in the best of hands.

  2. My heart is breaking for you and the family. It is so sad that people care so little for a life.

  3. Thank you Carolyn. It is hard but I am trying to remember that he would not want us to be sad but happy

  4. I know that is what is helping me through all this.. I know that he is smiling down on us right now
