4 Easy Steps to Make A Dramatic Effect in the Bedroom

This summer I started thinking a man does our bedroom need some updating. I think this started before last summer, but I didn’t start actively pursuing it until this winter. I wanted something different. I had tried the dark brown and turquoise blue thing, gray and white, and then I went to the black and white design. But nothing felt right that was until I came across some amazing bedroom designs on Pinterest. I fell in love with the colors gray and yellow. They are subtle but yet they make such a bold statement when matched together. I fell in love with these colors when I was out shopping with my oldest daughter, getting her bedding for her college dorm. I saw a beautiful set at one of those big department stores, and I thought if only I didn’t have one going off to college, I might be able to splurge a little and do a bedroom upgrade. I quickly snapped a picture of it and hoped that one day I would be able to afford it. Even after all the events, I never shook that image from my mind. I was on Amazon one day with some Amazon credits in hand, and I searched out those colors in bedroom comforters. I came across several options. Some of these options were in my budget, and some were way out of it.

I settled on this design. It came with 20 pieces which included one reversible comforter, 1 Bed skirt, two pillow shams, two decorative pillows, four pcs sheet set, four panels, two valances, four tie backs. I have yet to do the window treatments, but that is another project for another day. When I first got it, I wasn’t too crazy about the yellow as it was little brighter than what I thought it would be but after a while, it grew on me. So with bedding in place, I then decided I wanted to make a statement. A statement mind you that would not cost a lot of money but create a dramatic effect. I had an idea in mind but waited a while before I put it in place. A couple of weeks I was Wal-Mart and came across some sheer panels in their clearance section. I was able to get four sets of sheer panels for $3.00 apiece. $12.00 total then I added two decorative curtain rods for $6.00 a piece to make this dramatic statement.

Then Ice Day 2015 came around, which was also known as last Tuesday. I decided that was the perfect day to create the effect that I wanted. So the first thing I did, my husband did was to install both curtain rods. We placed one on against the top the wall right above the bed and the other we put about 3 feet out from the bed so that it would hang over the bed. Once all the hardware was in place I was able to put the panels on the rods and hang them.

I hung the ones behind the bed first and the one that hung over the bed, I did next. I then pulled the panels behind the other panels and draped them.

I love that this was a very easy fix that allowed me to upgrade my bedroom without spending tons of money.

So for less than $200 with bedding included I was able to upgrade my bedding. I was able to use some of the pillows I had on hand to add to the layered look. The gray pillows in the back behind the yellow ones were from an old set. I add the blue wreath for a pop of color. Want to know how to make one of those then check out my other blog Champagne Style Bare Budget for the directions. So tell me what do you think of the outcome?
